I’m starting a production company in Alabama and need to get a cool web page up and running soon.
Buy the hosting that I recommend (you need it anyways) and I’ll set you up a WordPress blog for $75.00
http://urlpro.net/godaddy.html
That host is just easy for me to work with.

Is it important to have a degree in web page development?
4 Comments | Posted by admin in web page designers
I use to be attending school to obtain a BS in Digital Media. I recently left the school because of the cost of tuition and deciding the major there wasn’t right for me. I’m currently at community college getting a degree in medical office technology and finding the classes extremely boring. I’m engaged and to be married in 2009, my husband will have still a year left for his degree so we’ll be living in an apartment while he finishes. I will need to get a job immediately so I don’t have time to change my major right now since I have a short time frame to finish my degree while working part-time.
Though, after my fiancĂ© finishes his degree I’m considering going back to school for web page design. Though, I’ve been told before depending on how good your portfolio is you can be a web page designer without a degree. I’m still assuming it’s very important to have a degree no matter what you’re doing. For you that are already web page designers how important is it to have an AS or BS?
Unless you are trying to get a job with a company that requires a bachelor’s degree, I wouldn’t really say it’s necessary. In fact, with most computer related fields I think it’s more important to know what you’re doing than to have the degree.
If you have the know how, you could try getting a job at a web design firm, or you could do it freelance.
What might actually make you more marketable than a degree is certification in the relevant languages/programs. I don’t know what certifications would apply specifically to web design, but you may already know enough to pass some of the exams.

Is being a web page designer a bad job to have? It generally receives around the same salary as a nurse.?
2 Comments | Posted by admin in web page designers
No, web page design is not easy. It’s actually rather complicated! During this hard economic time, would it be wise to not be a web page designer and stick to something that’s sure to give me a job, like being a registered nurse? Anything related to medical is almost a necessity here in America. Web page design definitely isn’t. I don’t know what to do! Please help me.
i would advise you to do something in the medical field. jobs in web page design and computer technology are constantly being outsourced and it is extremely hard to find work in that field..even with a bachelor’s degree. you will be the first to get laid off too. computer technology is always changing and it will require continued education. in the medical field, your all but guaranteed employment with only an associates degree.

What are the basic things I need to know to be a web page designer?
5 Comments | Posted by admin in web page designers
I’m still not 100% sure what I want to do for a career. I’m also thinking of computer programming. Does anyone know what I would need to know for either a web page designer or a computer programmer.
It all depends on your goals.
For anything with web development, HTML is mandatory. While there are programs that can generate HTML for you, to truly control the display (and to ensure standards compliance) you need to write your own.
CSS is another requirement for the web. CSS defines the style rules for the HTML pages.
To design the look and feel of websites, I would recommend learning about graphic design and becoming familiar with generating computer graphics.
For developing interactive websites there are two sides. For the client-side (programming the user’s browser), you will want to be comfortable using javascript and AJAX (a way to use javascript for partial page loads).
For server-side, you will want to be familiar with SQL (database queries) and know at least one (but likely many) server side programming framework. Many languages can be used and each has it’s benefits and drawbacks. People will say you need to know PHP or ASP or many other things, but really it just comes down to being comfortable with programming.
Finally, to be a computer programmer, you just have to enjoy problem solving. Programming is all about using the limited set of commands and hardware at your disposal to get the job done. If you want to give it a try, I suggest getting a book about java and experimenting with making simple apps. Programming books aren’t easy to read (they are essentially a language description) but you can learn how to do a lot from them.

Any GOOD web page designers you can trust on line?
2 Comments | Posted by admin in web page designers
I want to build a new web page from scratch.
I don’t want to spend too much money and certainly want it to look professional. Though, I do not want to haggle with snooty "artists" nor with starving undergrad geeks.
My level of understanding is medium, but would like to be treated as a 5 year old customer…over the web though.
Any ideas or leads?
I doubt you want to be treated as a "5 year old", but as a customer that’s been with a web designer for 5 years, at least that’s how I perceive your comment. I have customers that I’ve worked with for years, and they keep coming back, so I guess I’ve been doing something right….and I’ve never even met them in person!
I’m not sure what you meant by your "level of understanding is medium", but I think you mean doing your own web page yourself.
In any event, if you’re interested, contact me via my website and provide me with some details on what you’d like.
