I tried Tripod but the pictures never load properly for me. I need a free website that has an easy to use website builder to make a personal website for friends and family. Which one do you think is the best? I have a Myspace and Photosite already.

www.freewebs.com

and

www.moonfruit.com

They are both easy to use free website designers.

Someone who designs, builds, develop and make sure that a website is completely up and running without problems, can he or she also be called a website engineer?

If you are doing it ALL, you are more into the developer part.

You can call me anything you want, just don’t call me late for dinner.

I am looking to have a website designed for our company. I started one but didn’t like it so I am paying a pro to do it, right.

So what kind of questions should I ask them to know they will be good for us?

Depending on the nature of your web site there could be numerous questions to ask.

While it is nice to see a portfolio (as previously mentioned) to see how "pretty" the web site look all you get is just lipstick and rouge. How well do these sites function?

If they are a web designer, then they should have a website themselves. How well does their site look and work? If their site has a portfolio, then go to the sites listed in the portfolio. Almost every web design company stamps a copyright at the bottom of the website and provides a link back to their website for further revenue. I worked for one website design company that would lose a website to a competitor but keep the site on their portfolio.
1)Ask how do they “brand” the site so that those viewing your site knows who did the work. Check out their portfolio and make sure that the sites they say they developed are still branded by the company. Use these sites as much as possible. Especially, different times during the day. Make sure the sites function as expected.
2)Ask if they will host the website. This is particular in your case since you had one already. Will they use the same host, do they host themselves? If they host, then what guarantee do they offer that your site won’t be down?
3)What rights do you have to the website? If you have to leave them later, then can they provide you the site on a disk to take elsewhere?
4)Do they offer advertisement to help bring visitors to your site? Costs? Expectations? This is important. They can bring a visitor to your site but that may not generate revenue. Can they track this?
5)Depending on specific content you have you need to ask more narrowly pointed questions. For example, if you want to accept credit card sales. Ask about guarantees for privacy act and payment card industry standards. You don’t want your company to take blame for privacy data leak.
As I mentioned before, I have experience within the web design community. You are more than welcome to contact me and ask me specific questions as you work to find and with the developers. If you need a different point of view or further advice. Also, do not hesitate to email me (irishtek@yahoo.com) about specifics of your site if you want more detailed questions to ask.

Do I have to like draw out what I want all the pages to look like?

Can I just give the designer my idea and have them work on it?

What do I have to do before I ask a designer to design my site?

Find a website that look like the one you want and ask changes to the sections that do not interest you.

Ask the Designer to create a one page template first.

I am a website designer, and need some money as I have no job at current.

If you have a small business and need a website, please let me know and see if I can help.

Wow. This spam hoc just screams "professionalism" doesn’t it. Being a web designer myself, I’m inclined to believe you’re just a youngster with an account on a prefab Flash Dev site or a pirated copy of Dreamweaver.

If you have a website……."business"………why aren’t you listing your own website on here? That would at least make you look 1% more legitimate.

What would it take for a person to become a successful website designer/developer?

In other words… what do I have to do? Go through?

Should I get a degree in anything?

optional question – do they make a lot of money?

THANK YOU!
study what?
degree in what?

1, 2. study a lot and surf on websites.

3. a degree is good for any field and a need for some people but not for everybody. *bill gates didn’t have a degree when he got billionaire.

4. like any other profession to make a lot of money is directly related to how good your are.

My personal website check – http://www.asendes.com
Having 7yrs of experience, anybody knows where can i get projects from web

Thanks,
Mohan.

Just keep doing what you just did, post your web site everywhere you can.

I found many people will go to sites like "Dynamic Drive" and give a few freebies just to get your name out and around.

The few flash sites I did see were nice, and I think you will go far in this business, wish I had better information to give you, but all I can say is keep posting your links everywhere you can.

I just reworked my site, so my SEO ranking went to all but zero, but when I get it back up to where it was, lets exchange links, to advertise each other.
